NEW! Monthly support group for parents and carers

Home Farm HotelThe first meeting of our parents and carers support group will be next TUESDAY 19TH NOVEMBER, 6.30-8.30pm at Home Farm Hotel, Wilmington, East Devon.

The group, which will meet on the third Tuesday of each month, is intended as a space for the parents and carers of young people with emotional and mental health issues, to get together –  to talk, share experiences and gain support from meeting others who understand what it’s like to be supporting a child or young person who is struggling with mental illness.

The effects of mental illness do not stop with the person with the problem, but ripple out the affect parents, siblings and the wider family.  Unfortunately, support services rarely extend this far, so parents and carers are often left to struggle to find their own way forward through what can be a bewildering, exhausting and at times, terrifying journey.

The Project’s founder, Debbie Humberstone, explained, “I know that when my daughter was so ill with her mental health problems, speaking to other parents and carers would have been an enormous comfort and support to me, and so this is why I am setting up this group – to offer that support.”

This is an open group to which all are welcome and there is no charge for attending.  Parents and carers from across East Devon, West Dorset, South Somerset and beyond are all welcome to come along.  It doesn’t matter what emotional or mental health difficulties your child or young person is struggling with, whether they have a diagnosis or you are just concerned that there may be a problem – we are here to offer support.  Talking to others, and realising you are not alone, can be tremendously beneficial; and talking to people who understand can break down some of the stigma and fear that surrounds mental illness.

We will be meeting in a private room in the hotel, to make it easier for people to talk openly about their concerns, issues and challenges, and hope to invite speakers to the group from time to time.

Home Farm Hotel is easily accessible, situated on the main A35 between Axminster and Honiton.  There is free parking at the hotel.  Food, teas, coffees and drinks are available at the hotel for those who wish to purchase them.

If you are interested in finding out more, or would like to come along, please do get in touch.  You can email me on or ring 07970 167341.  The Project can also be found of Facebook at, where you can find information about our Parents Group, as well as our Support Sessions for young people.

We look forward to welcoming you to the group.
