Our monthly parents/carers support group offers an opportunity to meet up, to talk and to share your experiences and thoughts, and to receive some support for yourself in a friendly, informal and relaxed environment. We are all about bringing people together, to break down the isolation and stigma associated with mental illness, and to hopefully make a difficult situation that little bit easier.
We meet on the third Monday of each month from 6.30-8.30pm at the Young People’s Centre, Axminster. The group meets in a private setting, so that you can feel free to talk in a safe, confidential space.
In addition to the friendly support offered by our group, we also offer talks and workshops which can help you learn more about particular mental health issues, or tips and techniques to help you relax and look after yourself. The choice is yours … if there is something you would like to know more about in relation to emotional and mental health, we will try and arrange it. It’s your group, and we are here to help.
We are also keen for you to share your thoughts, resources and experience with each other. If you’ve read a helpful book or article, or tried something which really helped you or your child, then we’d love you to share that with the group. So often we can learn from others who are going through similar issues, and this way we can all help each other.
We are also keen to collect your views and stories about the support your child/young person has received from mental health services – what works well, for example, or how you think a service could be improved. From time to time we can feel let down by statutory services, and we would like to feed back your views through Healthwatch Devon to help improve services in the future. You can either feedback your views through The Project, or directly to Healthwatch Devon using their Speak Out Form.
